Is (E):

  • Saint-Rémy-de-Provence : about 4 km northeast of Mas des Figues, known for its Roman ruins of Glanum and the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery where Vincent van Gogh stayed.

Is (E):

  • Eygalières : about 12 km east of Mas des Figues, a charming old Provençal village.

  • Oppidum des Caisses de Jean-Jean : approximately 15 km east of Mas des Figues, an archaeological site located north of the commune of Mouriès.

South-East (SE):

  • Peirou Lake: about 5 km southeast of Mas des Figues.

  • Grotte du Peirou : about 5 km southeast of Mas des Figues.

  • Vallon de Saint Clerg : about 6 km southeast of Mas des Figues, famous because the composer Gounod drew his inspiration there to create the opera Mireille.

  • Rocher des Deux Trous : located at the top of the Vallon de Saint Clerg.

  • The Destet road via Maussane which joins Eygalières.

South-West (SW):

  • Fontvieille : about 12 km southwest of Mas des Figues, known for the Moulin de Daudet and its charming Provençal streets.

  • Barbegal aqueduct : approximately 14 km southwest of Mas des Figues.

  • Montmajour Abbey : about 14 km southwest of Mas des Figues, a Benedictine abbey with impressive medieval architecture.

  • Ernaginum (Roman village ruins) : about 8 km southwest of Mas des Figues, next to the Castrum Saint Gabriel Towers

  • Saint-Gabriel Chapel : approximately 8 km southwest of Mas des Figues, a Romanesque chapel located in the town of Tarascon.

West (W):

  • King René's castle in Tarascon and the port of Beaucaire: about 15 km west of Mas des Figues.

  • Saint Michel de Frigolet Abbey : in the heart of Montagnette, not far from Boulbon and Barbentane, known for its name taken from the word thyme, ""ferigoule"".

 

Gravel Bike Tour

Starting point: Mas des Figues

  1. Mas des Figues → Val d'Enfer:

    • Leave Mas des Figues, turn right for 500m then head south towards the Alpilles.

    • Follow the road until you reach Val d'Enfer.

  2. Val d'Enfer → Les Baux-de-Provence:

    • Continue on the road to the village of Baux-de-Provence, perched on a hill.

  3. Les Baux-de-Provence → Maussane-les-Alpilles:

    • Go down to Maussane-les-Alpilles, a village at the foot of the Alpilles.

  4. Maussane-les-Alpilles → Le Destet:

    • Head east towards the place called Le Destet.

    • Stop at Pierredon Abbey

  5. Le Destet → Eygalières:

    • Continue your journey towards the north-east to reach Eygalières.

    • Stop in Eygalières to drink a beer and eat the dish of the day at the village brasserie

  6. Return to Eygalières → Pont Romain:

    • Take the road towards the southwest to reach the Roman Bridge.

  7. Roman Bridge → Romarin → Bypass of the Aerodrome via the Romanin Vineyard:

    • Head west towards Romanin.

    • Go around the Romanin airfield via the paths which cross the Romanin vineyard . You will enjoy views of the vineyards and the typical landscapes of the region.

    • After going around the airfield, continue your way towards Saint Rémy de Provence.

  8. Romanin → Saint-Paul-de-Mausole:

    • Head west to reach Saint-Paul-de-Mausole.

  9. Saint-Paul-de-Mausole → Chemin Long du Canal des Alpines:

    • Take the path along the Canal des Alpines.

  10. Arrival: Mas des Figues

    • Finish your return loop at Mas des Figues.

Update Details

  • Type of terrain: In addition to asphalt roads and gravel paths, you will cross vineyards around the Romanin airfield.

  • Difficulty: Moderate with light technical passages on the vineyard paths.

This version of the tour incorporates a pleasant and picturesque detour through the Romanin vineyard, adding an extra touch of local discovery.
